i couldn't have said it better, Hogryder. I asked my Harley-riding brother (a former Gold Wing owner), and he simply said it's more fun. On his last trip down the Blue Ridge parkway, he said people (car people, mostly) would walk right past Gold Wings and the like to come over and talk about his Ultra Classic.

I think there's something about the sound, too. Most Jap v-twins just haven't managed to capture the HD sound. Many have gone with a split-pin crank for a better ride (not a bad thought), but they lose the v-twin's distinctive note in the process. Some are getting better at it, though.

I also think that Harley has already seen the light about us aging boomers reaching bail-out time on two wheels (god, I hate picturing myself in a Buick -- no flames, please, if you like them). They may be on to something with the Buell Blast. I'd be willing to bet that that single will see it's way into a Sportster frame by next year.

I just ride what I like.
